Under Nothing

I remember the look in your eye,
a sweater, a painted on smile
pretending to turn wine into fire
pretending to give up your fight
the whites of
dark green eyes
muddied when
lark song dies
muddied when
lark song dies
no beginning, no end in your sight
forgetting, won't look at the light
that something, the tired goodbyes
forever left worn out and dry
whats left of
how and why
erased when
lark song dies
erased when
lark song dies

trickling madness pools in my eyes
there's no disguise to wear, i don't care
skies become heavy with paintings and lyrics
when I cannot give them to you
gave to me your stormy sea shores
I never could be scared any more
its wearing me down being away
I wander around watching the grass turning to grey
birds will cease singing and airplanes will fall from
the sky to the earth which will crumble and leave behind
empty containers of meaning and merit
and still...
